Headed to DC this weekend to visit Amy, Chuck, JJ, and Caroline (the peanut who is due in January) and to help paint house. Hopefully they won’t ask us to tile anything.... Posted by Joy on 08/21 at 08:14 PM Permalink to this post.
Filed Under : Baby • Commented on by (0) people. Read or Post Comments Here Sunday, July 20, 2008Busy, Busy, BusyWell, I’ve been making an outline of my writing goals since I got back from Oz. I’ve got lots I’d like to do in a short amount of time. My adult fiction book, MADE FOR WALKING, is coming along, although I fixed a major character hole and now am going to have to redo quite a bit of work from the beginning. I’ll save that for the second draft, though. First draft is slated to be done at the end of September.
My young adult book, GEMMA UP-OVER, has started off strong and I hope to finish a first draft by the end of August. I’ve got a query letter started and am really excited about how the story is shaping up.
On another front, I’ve been asked to teach a writing workshop in Lexington. I don’t get paid, of course, and I have to take a 1/2 day on my very first day of work, but I’m thrilled to do it. I’ll be teaching a writing workshop to foster kids! I’m reworking my writing website so it’s going to be down for awhile, but I’m hoping to make it much better/cooler/more hip so it’s worth the wait. I’ve finished the basic workings on a website I designed for some friends: Bath County Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8:00-12:00. It’s a wonderful little farmers market and I was proud to make them a website. I have one more website in the works for some family friends. I’m hoping to incorporate some new programming that I’m learning right now from a Really Thick Book of how-to. It would be great if I could really get into this and make it kind of a side-venture. But, it sure is addicting and time-wasting! Anyway, just a little ramble. Wednesday, July 16, 2008The Bathroom: Phase 1No, not peeing, dear family, remodeling!
Stu and I loved the tile bathrooms in Oz so much that we’re working on redoing our bathrooms! Or, bathroom, rather. The master bath will soon be covered in tile. So far we’ve had to hacksaw some bolts, but we’re getting there. The vinyl is up, the floor is now swept. I’ve got to take the door off and get that little white ring and the toilet’s wax ring up today and then we’ll be ready to lay the backerboard down!
On another note, we think the little man may be teething, this time some molars, which are apparently very painful. He’s very clingy this morning, wouldn’t let me put him down for over an hour, and then finally he just conked out. It took a bit to weasel out from under him, but I did and this is what remains:
I promise, this week I will post Oz updates and photos! Monday, July 07, 2008Google Anyone? It’s 12:26 am and I am currently googling “How to get your 1-year old back on a normal sleep routine after traveling to Australia for two weeks.” I’m finding nothing that will help RIGHT NOW but stuff that will help OVER A FEW DAYS. Until then........pray for patience, please! Posted by Joy on 07/07 at 11:26 PM Permalink to this post.

Anyway, the boy is one and I can’t believe it. Everyone said it would happen fast, but man, during the sleepless nights and the long days, I never thought this year would end. Now instead of a little lump who sits on the couch and just follows you with his eyes, we have a toddler--yes he toddles! He’s now taking up to ten steps at a time. Very slow and very shaky, but steps nonetheless! Anyway, I guess we’re in for a real treat now when he runs around on his feet instead of crawling. He loves to look at you when you say no, smile, and then turn right around and do whatever you told him not to. I’ll make a more detailed entry soon, but lots of things to do and miles to go before I sleep! Birthday photos:
Oh, look, the cardboard my pressie came in. This is so much more fun than the actual present…
Huh, this football would fit nicely on top of my pressie…
Wow, this box is so much cooler than the pressie that came in it…
And a cupcake montage…

Filed Under : Baby • Commented on by (1) people. Read or Post Comments Here Saturday, May 03, 2008Strawberry FestivalToday we went to the Strawberry Festival in Roanoke. We met up with the Wolf Cookies and picked up an injured Beavis, who we hiked with in ‘04, to bring him here to recoup a bit. Had a great time, at $6 strawberry shortcakes and had an...interesting...meal at TGI Fridays, a place I used to love which now serves MSG in everything, including their oreo chocolate cake. You can guess who is getting an angry letter from me! Anyway, here are some photos:
And, a rarely-seen photo of mommy with Alexander! Yay!

Filed Under : Baby • Commented on by (1) people. Read or Post Comments Here Vegimite! The boy had his first sample of Vegimite today. I’m not sure if I’m spelling that correctly or not, so I apologize for my murder of an Aussie staple, but I try to not even look at the jar for fear of throwing up. On the other hand, the boy apparently seems to be Australian, at least in part--because the Vegimite was a success!

Filed Under : Baby • Commented on by (1) people. Read or Post Comments Here Monday, April 07, 2008Mulch!Well, it’s springtime, and that means time for working outside! Today we got a HUGE load of mulch dumped in the driveway and I began mulching with the help of one of the other members of the George family. Guess which one?? (oh, and check out my new hairdo!)
In other news, we are eager for the little man to get over his cold/virus/cough/teething as soon as he can so we can get some sleep and actually get some things done around the house. We are planning to tile our bathroom as soon as we can get around to making a big purchase at Lowes--maybe this weekend. I’m looking forward to my all day trip on Friday with my 7th graders. I’ll be taking them to Baltimore, Maryland to go to the Baltimore Aquarium. They have a special exhibit on Australian animals and everything! We’ll see the dolphin show and the 4-d movie, too. We’ll leave school at (gasp!) 3:45am and return about 11pm. Good thing it’s a Friday and Grammy is babysitting the boy all weekend so I can recoup! Hope everyone is well!
