The new netbeans 6.0 is shaping up VERY nicely. I am very impressed with the nb6 milestone releases over netbeans 5.5. I personally HATE eclipse. Its a giant dumptruck of code the size of the QEII ocean liner. Netbeans 6 in comparison is so nicely slim and versatile. Now if they can beef up the support for standard C I’ll be over the moon.
I am very much looking forward to the final release of NB6 and trying to get it into my workplace under the radar. They are trying to figure out which direction to jump right now, so much ancient legacy code around (some vb5 still around...), new java stuff coming on board (some from the ye olde java 1.3 paleolithic period).
There is little to no impetus to go to C# (Ideally that would be my preference but all our new SAP integration code is java, and makes no sense to go C#.). NB6 Looks like a great candidate to push off to the other developers, nice and integrated, no 25 minute startup with a bajillion interdependancies and 10gig space requirements…
The screencast here for the nb6 gui builder demo is a riot. I see the guy likes Trabbies… lol!

The screws are slowly turning at work, none of which are my fault, but things upstairs change and those downstairs have to deal with it, so I ended up going in to work on my Saturday and working until the afternoon. bleah.
The big winner was on the way home I went mtn biking. yay. The i-drive was pretty admirable, but I am ripping off the stock disc brakes pronto. They have no stopping power what so ever and I am only 140lbs! Dangerous shit they are plus they are dialed for Americans (meaning the rear brake and front brake are reversed on the handlebars....) I’m going to load it up with my Hope M4’s and front/rear levers will be placed on the CORRECT sides hehe
Need to work on the gearing as well, but I want the cable to stretch a bit more first. Right now I can’t get into the biggest rear ring. Going from #2 to #1 causes the chain to fly off over the top cog.
Its also great to have a bike for my size, as much as I loved my Specialised rockhopper, its 19” frame was too tall for me, this little GT i-drive is just right for me, being smaller I can flick it around nicely.
The other disappointment was the fire road I picked to go explore down wasn’t very long before it dead ended (I did get to follow of a trail of spent bright red 12ga shotgun cartridges like breadcrumbs), and I had to turn around as the trees left no room for passage.
Still, it was sooo nice to be out in the sun biking!!

I like Quorn… so maybe after working there I wont like it? hmm..
Quorn make vegetarian stuff out of tvp + soy. eg: Vegetarian Mince. Quorn Chicken Pieces, etc. etc. Sausages, Burgers. Its actually nice and tasty…
Hopefully it wont change my mind…

So.. I now have a job.
I’ll be standing on my feet for 8 hours a day, starting at 7:30am on Sunday.
Currently its for 3 days but more will be there after this ‘trial’…
I will be doing the fun thing of packing prepackaged-sandwhiches into cartons to be delivered to supermarkets and snack shops around the country.
Yehaw!

Well I thought the interview went well. I dont think they had done much interviewing before. there were not development tests. They just asked me about the software development lifecycle.
Anyway, apparently I dont have the depth they were looking for but they are going with someing ‘internally’. Whatever bollocks that means. At least they could have given me a proper answer than fobbing me off with the above.
ohwell.. back to looking.

Well I survived the xmas party. The night start off in Bodeans (some american style ‘rib’ place). i managed to pick over a ceaser salad whilst fighting off the smell of 7 people eating ‘baby back ribs’ or something.
Then we ended up in a pub down toward Regeant street. not too shabby either. a couple of vodka and oranges whilst the other boys downed a few pints of larger then it was off to the club.
Tantra. Smaller than I expected, we had a good size crowd. Everyone was ogling everyone else.
There were no fights this year and no visible falling down drunks or assualting potplants either..
The company booked taxis for everyone, cept my driver had never driven to the east end.. and he’s like “I’ll drive east. we’ll find it” yep.. after an hour we managed! Bloody hell, we drove round hackney for like 15 minutes. I was like “If the lights turn red, you DO NOT STOP!” man hackney is hole.
I was a little dehydrated the next day but ohwell…
There was a few birds that scrubbed up really well… heh.

was cranking out code like a madman today.. for well.. most of the day.. then my boss says.. “well.. I’m off.. Ive got.. a meeting” and goes.. so we all stop work more or less, cuppa tea or 10… bitta chat.. some phonage…
you know how it goes when both bosses are out…
then his wife rings up.... hmmm “oh he must be at the dentist.. ok” aaah so it was a meeting with his dentist!
hahah
anyway today was kinda bludgy…
i reworked my budget today.. the kind of budget where you dont spend a single p and hoard every pound and just dont eat for the next 3 months… hahah…
damn supermarket brand food!!
i think i can do it.. with all bills covered, things paid off, no debts, etc.. i should have 2k pounds for my hike. thats all expenses everything… thats what (quick! to the currency conversion site! http://www.xc.com/ucc mm not bad. 3.5k! suhweeeeeet… even better when your predicted budget gives you 2.8k.. but who knows what expenses might turn up between now and leaving.. so 2k is a nice base pool…
hmm if i didnt have that damn car loan to still pay off even when not owning a car anymore… ohwell…
hell, no debt whatsoever (ok ok damn car payments dont count!!) nothing but a blank visa!!!
just realised i havent factored some insurance in yet.. damn… will have to visit the bankvamps tomorow…
