KuroBox/HG and UBoot

Looks like someone has managed to get uBoot working on the kuro! Yay!

Now we can get a real 2.6 kernel going. Means I need to get a new HD for my kuro, something with more cache and space (2mb 20gb currently) that runs a little more silently. Maybe even a 5400 RPM drive, less noise, its a NAS so I dont care about 7200RPM drives really.

A 120gb 5400 8mb drive would be fine I think…

When wireless is wired

My last laptop didnt have wireless so I purchased a dlink G650 pcmcia card which worked well with my dlink di-624 wireless router. I made sure my new laptop had builtin wirless. All is well.

Except when none of the *nix distributions like to support either out of the box, its just a majour hassle thats not worth the headache. (In the last week I messed with Ubuntu 6, SuSE 10.1, Arch, FreeBSD 6.1, PC-BSD. I’m a BSD guy but FreeBSD 6.1 does not like my acpi and wont boot the CD properly with some GEOM bug… ugh… I do love Arch now too...)

Want wireless? Best thing to do is to plug in the lan connection and get nice full 100mbps and no hassle, no security woes no messing with wpa, wpsk wep wap woo wee and whatever other w accronyms are around.

My next laptop will have gigabit ethernet (which also means an upgrade to my router but thats ok) which wont happen for some time yet..

Mayhem

Lots of stuff been happening lately. Got myself a mandolin and started learning music and playing. It pisses me off, because its tedious, but that is the only way to muscle memorise the gaps between the strings and the frets… I havnt even started on the frets yet..

Im enjoying it but it drives me to abstraction!

Compiled mt-daapd for my kurobox last night, went very smoothly, dang its nice. Now any computer in the house with itunes can see the music server which is cool. The NAS is working very well.

Joys birthday is coming up, our anniversary is the following week.

House closing next week, and we really need to start packing stuff up… but who knows.

Family reunion in Minnesota the week after that.

Boy, the next to weeks are gonna be super busy.
